Today we continued with the Sermon Series ‘SUCCEEDING IN YOUR ASSIGNMENT’ by our Senior Pastor Bishop George Mbulo. Below is the message outline for Part 1 of the sermon series. May the word of the Lord bless you today!

TEXT: Nehemiah 1:1-4

  • From a wall in ruins, from a people distressed and discouraged, rose a MAN called by God who dared to TRUST, to FIGHT and to BUILD.
  • PART 1– THE ASSIGNMENT WHICH BIRTHS A PASSION:
  • We all have an ASSIGNMENT from God in this life (Ps. 57:2; Prov. 19:21; Heb. 12:1-2)
  • What is your ASSIGNMENT which will birth a PASSION?
  1. What God CREATED you for (Jer. 1:4-5; Ps. 139:13-16)

“The word of the Lord came to me, saying, ‘Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.’” (Jer. 1:4-5)

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.  I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.  My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place.  When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body.  All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” (Ps. 139:13-16)

  1. What you are MEANT to become in life (Acts 9:15; 13:2b; 2 Sam. 5:1-2; Jug. 6:14-16)

“But the Lord said to Ananias, ‘Go! This man is my chosen instrument to carry my name before the Gentiles and their kings and before the people of Israel.” (Acts 9:15)

“…Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” (Acts 13:2b)

“The Lord turned to him and said, ‘Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand.  Am I not sending you?’  But Lord, Gideon asked, ‘how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.’  The Lord answered, ‘I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites together.” (Jug. 6:14-16)

UNDERSTANDING YOUR ASSIGNMENT:

  1. What is your ASSIGNMENT? (Neh. 2:4-5)

“The king said to me, ‘What is it you want?’  Then I prayed to God of heaven, and I answered the king, ‘If it pleases the king and if your servant has found favor in his sight, let him send me to the city in Judah where my fathers are buried so that I can rebuild it.” (Neh. 2:4-5)

  1. What is the TIMELINE for your Assignment? (Neh. 2:6)

“Then the king, with the queen sitting beside him, asked me, ‘How long will your journey take, and when will you get back?’  It pleased the king to send me; so I set a time.” (Neh. 2:6)

  • What is the STRATEGY for your Assignment? (Neh. 2-7-9)

“I also said to him, ‘If it pleases the king, may I have letters to the governors of Trans-Euphrates, so that they will provide me safe-conduct until I arrive in Judah?  And may I have a letter to Asaph, keeper of the king’s forest, so he will give me timber to make beams for the gates of the citadel by the temple and for the city wall and for the residence I will occupy?  And because the gracious hand of my God was upon me, the king granted my requests.  So I went to the governors of Trans-Euphrates and gave them the king’s letters.  The king had also sent army officers and cavalry with me.” (Neh. 2:7-9)

  1. What are the potential CHALLENGES to your Assignment? (Neh. 2:10)

“When Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite official heard about this, they were very much disturbed that someone had come to promote the welfare of the Israelites.” (Neh. 2:10)
